The Color Purple - Alice Walker A Great read! I loved Walker's style of writing. Celie a survivor of 20 years of abuse both sexually, physically an emotionally tells her story through a series of letters that she addresses to Dear God at first and then to her sister Nettie. You can hear the sound of the deep south in the narrative voices of Celie and the other characters that impact her life. I found the story to be an extreme emotional journey starting from page one where the opening scene is Celie being raped by her "Pa" to the very end when she is finally reunited with her sister and two children.
